For me, it’s important to anticipate where fashion is heading. Ankara is a popular fabric worn by Africans. Ankara is a 100% cotton fabric with vibrant patterns. It’s usually a colorful cloth and primarily associated with Africans because of its tribal-like patterns and motifs. It is also a very versatile fabric and many items can be made from it such as hats, blazers, shoes just to name the few. Ankara print fabric can be worn for regular occasions, but many people consider it a formal fabric and wear it for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, balls etc. Due to the attributes of Ankara to be more formal, Designers and fashion icons have decided to match it up with Western attires such as a suits and hats to give a perfect finish to the Ankara wear. Even though Ankara fabrics are associated with the African culture,it’s origins are not authentically and wholly African. It was intended for the Asian markets but rather gained a lo of popularity in Africa and the world at large. Dutch wax prints started out as mass-produced imitations of Indonesian batik fabric. As a result, Hats are also designed with the Ankara fabric and looks really beautiful. An example can be found in matching a designed hat with same color of the pant you wear bellow a suit. The fact that this fabric is versatile makes it easier to match up with many formal dress codes. A typical example being Ankara pants and suit. It gives that perfect gentle look for any formal occasion or ceremony.
